Gunnedah's councillors showed strong support for Friday's drive-through flu vaccine clinic by unanimously voting to waive hire fees for the showground.

The day clinic will be set-up by Northwest Family Medical and staff will deliver vaccines between 8am and 6pm. The day hire fee for the showground is $35 and the amenity fee is $65.

Councillors said it was "a great initiative" and they were glad to support it.
"This pandemic has put a lot of pressure on our community ... we're being advised by state and federal governments that those at risk and those in essential services should be getting the flu vaccination," Cr Jamie Chaffey said.
"This is a small part that we can play as a council in waiving these fees and making it safer for our medical practitioners but also making it a lot easier for some part of our community to come out and get the flu vaccination.
"It's my hope that more organisations in our community will also want to follow in doing something similar."
Northwest Family Medical patients aged 18-64 can book appointments for the clinic. Patients under 18 and over 64 can receive it at the centre on Barber Street.
Residents will be asked to enter the showgrounds via View Street and stay in their vehicles to keep to social distancing rules.
