Werris Creek Public School staff visited more than 100 students for Easter with chocolate eggs for socially-distanced fun

Students at Werris Creek Public School may not have had the typical day they were expecting on Thursday, but the teachers did something special instead.

They embarked on a mini road trip around town to visit local families for Easter.

They decked out a car in tinsel and visited more than 100 students at their Werris Creek homes, delivering 1000 chocolate Easter eggs to excited kids.

Students had made Easter hats for the occasion and stood in their front yards wearing their creations, to wave hello to their teachers.

Assistant principal Deeanne Wand said the trip around town took four hours, but it was worth it.

"We are a small community, but we are a tight-knit community ... we wanted to get out and see the kids," she said.

"It was the highlight of their week, they were so excited to see their teachers and it was one of those lovely, heartwarming moments.

"The kids had huge smiles."

Ms Wand said students, teachers and parents alike were sad about missing the annual Easter hat parade, so the egg drop and drive-by doubled as a socially-distanced parade.

Most of the pupils at the primary school have been doing classes online for the past few weeks, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It was a little bittersweet, because we're all missing the kids like crazy," Ms Wand said.
