Narrabri Shire Council COVID-19 statement released

The council said they were doing "by revising and updating" as required the council's business continuity plan to "ensure effective operations are maintained".

"Council has considered a variety of scenarios and have developed frameworks to respond to these scenarios should they eventuate," the statement read.

"This approach has been taken to ensure the organisation can continue to operate with minimum disruptions and maintain its serviceability to the community."

Mayor Cathy Redding remains confident in how the council is responding to the virus threat.

"Maintaining operations and service provisions to the community is crucial. We are working with all levels of government and associated specialist departments such as NSW Health to ensure we are acting in the best interests of our community," Cr Redding said.

"As a council we want the community to remain safe and healthy, what we do not want is for panic and fear to take over.

"In such times of uncertainty, it is crucial the community does what they can to help one another. It is important that we continue our daily routines as normal where possible whilst exercising caution and taking the advice of health care professionals."

One of the key recommendations from health officials is that people maintain good hygiene practices, with 20-30 seconds of warm soapy hand washing regularly, self-isolating when unwell and if concerned, seeking medical advice.

Narrabri council will continue to monitor the situation closely and be guided by state and federal government advice.
