If you want to learn about a different culture, the library is the place to come!
We have plenty of books about:
- Travel - what to see and do in different lands;
- Language and literature - fact and fiction about different languages;
- Gardening - where do all those different flowers and plants come from?;
- Cooking - great recipes from different lands;
- Biographies - famous people from different countries.
And of course, you can read about the diverse culture in Australia in our Australian section, and how people of different countries helped shaped the society we enjoy today.
There are also countless fiction books to whet your appetite for different lands.
Read also:
Among the new books added to the collection this week are The land beyond the sea, a historical novel set in the Near East by Sharon Penman and The lost summers of driftwood by Vanessa McCausland - 'a gently flowing tale of heartbreak and hope' set in Australia.
Going further afield, I will miss you tomorrow is a mystery novel by Heine Bakkeid set in the distant land of Norway.
If you're not already a member of the library, join up - it's free and it's fun, and you will have access of all the materials available to borrow including books, magazines, talking books, large-print books, DVDs, and CDs.
Even if you don't want to join the library, you, and your children, can take part in the many programs that the library runs such as Brain training @ the library on Mondays, Toddler Time on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Junior Brain Games on Wednesday afternoon, and Bookends Literacy Assist on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons.
