Conditions were hot in and out of the pool at the recent Coonamble swimming carnival, where a team of four from Gunnedah faced tough competition as the mercury soared to 45 degrees celsius.

The Campbell twins Dana and Eliza shared medals in the 10 years division, with Dana claiming silver medals in the 50m butterfly, freestyle and breaststroke and the fast-and-furious Dash for Cash. She also finished second in the 200m individual medley with third place in the 50m backstroke and 100m breaststroke, registering improved times in every event.
Eliza nailed bronze medals in freestyle and butterfly with personal best times and just missed a place the Dash for Cash.
Younger sister Alexis is starting to show promise, winning a bronze medal in the seven years 25m butterfly and finishing a close fifth in breaststroke.

Eleven-year-old Angus Hobson clipped two seconds from his entry time to grab third place in the 50m butterfly with a another hard-fought third place in freestyle. The youngster also performed well in four other events in a very competitive field of Western District swimmers.
Swimming Gunnedah coach John Hickey has been preparing the team for Gunnedah's own postponed carnival on January 18.
The squad has been lapping up training once again in the outdoor 50m pool, which had been closed for three months due to a leak in a movement joint.
Kootingal Swimming Club's carnival program has been set down for March 8 after smoke from the Moonbi bush fires forced its cancellation on December 8 last year.
