Passersby said they saw flames come out of a power pole on the Kamilaroi Road property, landing in the dry grass, which then sparked the blaze.
Three residents nearby came armed with water tanks on their trucks to stop the fire, which was almost out when the Rural Fire Service (RFS) arrived shortly after.

Home owner Alison Knight said she heard a "big bang" before all her power went off, which was when she realised something was afoot.
"My fire alarm went off before I could even smell the smoke and I looked out the window and saw flames," Ms Knight said.
"My first instinct was a bit of panic but I grabbed my car keys and phone and rang the fire brigade as I drove out of the driveway so I knew I could get away if needed."
RFS members were on scene conducting back burning around the home when the Namoi Valley Independent arrived, and Essential Energy had begun fixing the power.
It is uncertain how the power pole caught fire at this stage.
