First held as a horse sports day, with a dance following that night, to celebrate the switching on of electricity in the village, the annual event has been running for 60 years and become an important and much-anticipated one for the Mullaley community
"The focus in those days was that it was a real family event, everyone could have a run in it," committee member Sheryl Martin said.
That is still the case, with events for riders of all ages and levels. They also cater for those without horses running various novelty events.
The community spirit that the event kicked off in also remains true today with any profits from the weekend reinvested into the Mullaley Showground and the Mullaley Memorial Hall.
Current Mullaley Gymkhana Association vice-president Andrew Craig has been attending the gymkhana and campdraft for over 30 years.
His late father Richard Craig was president from 1983-2008, and he recalls going as a young kid.
He said it should be a great weekend. The committee have invited past committee members to come back for the weekend and are planning a special lunch.

"With the current drought I think it's just good to get everyone together," he said.
The action will get underway at the Mullaley Showground at 8am and feature over 50 events plus a full afternoon of sporting events on the Saturday.
Sunday's campdraft will cater for junior, juvenile, ladies, novice and maiden drafter. Always popular, Martin said runs filled in about half an hour.
The current and prolonged drought conditions has made it tough to source cattle and consequently led to the cancellation of a lot of campdrafting events.
"We've been really fortunate that one of local companies - Union Ag - has been able to provide us with enough cattle in terrific condition to be able to run," Martin said, for which she added they are "eternally grateful".
Entry is free and the CWA and Mullaley P&C will be running a canteen.
