Sporting wins, poetry workshops, and waste art classes have kept students busy this week. Gunnedah South Public School's Year 3 students even took a step back in time when they visited the Red Hill Environmental Centre at Gulgong.

St Xavier's Primary School
Three St Xavier's netball teams travelled to Penrith to compete at the NSWCPS Netball Championships this week. The senior team were undefeated in their division and came home with a medal.
The younger teams had some wins and some losses and came away with a wealth of competitive experience.
Gunnedah South Public School
Gunnedah south's Year 3 students travelled by bus to Red Hill Environmental Centre at Gulgong this week.
Here, the students enjoyed visiting the museum, making butter, panning for gold and having a lesson in the old school house.

Carinya Christian School
Students in Year 7 at Carinya have been busy making amazing art with waste they've found. Students have been able to increase their awareness of their environmental impact on God's creation.
Students were encouraged to source their own waste products and materials, focusing on re-purposing, up-cycling and reusing it. They are all are looking forward to entering the "Waste Into Art" exhibition being held by the Gunnedah Shire Council later in the year.
Gunnedah Public School
Clinton Johnson, Carly Bindley-Brown and Maddie Mulherin represented Gunnedah Public School at a Dorothea Mackellar poetry workshop this week.
The poetry writers travelled to Gunnedah South Public School for the workshop.
The school's Year 6 students also enjoyed participating in their transition day at Gunnedah High School. They took part in activities like woodwork, science/STEM, and a history cookie excavation.
Ten of the school's students were lucky enough to attend the AEGC camp at Lake Keepit this week. The camp was partnered with the Sydney 6ers, which meant students learnt lots of new cricket skills.
On the second day of the camp, the students placed second in the gala day that was held. They were also treated with educational sessions on health, well-being, broadcast media and culture.
Quirindi High School
Academic Excellence
Seven Quirindi High School students travelled to the Combined High Schools State Athletics finals at Homebush this week, with great results.
Georgia Auld competed in the 16 year girls 400m and placed ninth, where she was invited into the 4x400m relay as part of the North West Team. Here, the team placed fourth in the state.
"I really enjoy athletics for the fitness it brings and setting personal goals in regards to outcomes. It's also terrific to be part of a group of successful athletes from Quirindi High School," Miss Auld said.
Other achievers also included Molly Elford, Jayden Etheridge, Aaron Frost-Guider, Caitlyn Etheridge and Bridie Douglas.
The 16 girls relay team members, Caitlyn Etheridge, Lacey Newcombe, Georgie Auld and Molly Elford, competed to place 9th.
"It was a blast as I love athletics so much. I'm focused on the future and really proud of how we all did," Miss Etheridge said.
Speeches from the 2020 school captain candidates
Quirindi high hosted eight invigorating speeches by the candidates for the 2020 school captaincy positions.
The formal assembly, opened by teacher, Mr Owen and chaired by current school captains Bridget Swain and Angus Nicholls, also featured the national anthem by Molly Owen and the Welcome to Country by Sam Fechner and Dylan Smith.
Principal Worley congratulated the outstanding group of students for nominating for the positions and spoke on the importance of resilience in all and the ability for students to pick themselves up and continue on after meeting obstacles in life and learning.
The candidates were warmly welcomed to stage and supported by family, friends and fellow students as they presented in a ballot-selected order.
This year's boy candidates include Liam Faulkner, Luke Fechner and Jock Barnett. The girls include Kelsey Hawkins, Mia Constable, Emily Cronin, Zara McCarthy, and Taylah Douglas.
After the presentations, the entire school assembled into their year groups and voted in preferential order for their 2020 representatives.
The announcement of the 2020 captains and vice captains will be held as part of the Year 12 Farewell Assembly on Friday, September 27.
Debating wins
Both Quirindi high junior debating teams won against Tamworth High School on Wednesday.
The teams included Bella Pollard, Paige Sevil, Grace Hutchins, Molly Owen, Ella Worley, Morgan Green, Lily Stewart and Katie Martin.
Debate one was Quirindi's A team versus Tamworth's A team.
"We were affirmative and the topic was: 'We should ban all technology in schools.' Our students performed convincingly and took the win," teacher and coach Miss Stock said.
Debate two was Quirindi's B team versus Tamworth's B team.
"We were negative and the topic was: 'All secondary schools should be co-educational' our team established strong ground, put up strong arguments and won the day," Miss Stock said.
Gamilaraay word of the week
Quirindi High School's Dylan Smith presented this week's Gamilaraay 'Word of the Week' - 'burrugarrbuu' which is Gamilaraay for magpie. This word was chosen because it is now swooping season for magpies.
"We are proud to pass on the learning of our Gamilaraay language to all students through our 'Word of the Week' project," Quirindi High School's Megan Outerbridge said.
