Gunnedah Shire Band played for locals and visitors alike on Saturday ahead of the NSW State Band Championships in late August.

The band and 2340 Big Band from Tamworth both took to the stage for a dinner dance and concert, and though only a small crowd attended, "everyone had a great night".
"The music 2340 Big Band played was absolutely fantastic. They played very professionally and gave a great performance and great dance music," band master Lawrence Rowe said.
Mr Rowe said the band would be "a couple of players short" when it headed to the championships in Penrith on August 24-25 to compete in B grade.

The musicians have been practising in weekend workshops and weekly sessions but the bad master said it had been "tough".
"The text selection is quite a difficult repertoire and I'm sure all bands will find it tough. We certainly found it tough ... [but] you've got to play those pieces to compete in B grade," he said.
