Liverpool Plains Shire Council (LSPC) is reminding residents to take precautions to ensure water meters and exposed pipes don't freeze as the winter months draw closer.

LPSC's water services manager Rod Batterham said residents should act now to safeguard the important infrastructure.
"Keep in mind that not only can frozen water meters and water pipes stop water service, in the worst-case scenario they can also cause damage that is expensive to repair or replace," Mr Batterham said.
"Pipes that are adequately protected along their entire length by placement within a buildings insulation, or insulation on the pipe itself, cause much less problems from freezing."

Ready-cut tyres are available to be given to residents upon request to ensure the meter is securely covered and will serve the purpose of preventing freezing.
"Any insulation that is used must be able to allow quick and easy access to read the meter. Any measure, such as wrapping the meter display, that prolongs reading could attract a fee for a return visit to carry out a meter read," Mr Batterham said.
"It's no fun waking up to find you have no hot water on a freezing cold morning and a frozen meter means no water for the household until the meter thaws out, so think ahead and pursue the best option - ensuring it doesn't freeze in the first place."
LPSC residents can request ready-cut tyres for their meters and pipes by contacting the council's service desk on 6746 1755.
