GUNNEDAH'S junior footballers have taken to the field for the first round of the 2019 junior rugby league season.
Children of all ages converged on Gunnedah's Longmuir Fields to launch the new season with the under-12 team playing host to the North Tamworth Bears.
The junior league program gives girls and boys the chance to play in a variety of positions with the kids taking turns in various positions.
The weekend's games mark the first time many of the region's juniors have taken the field since the annual Coalminers Cup carnival in Gunnedah last month.
This season's junior league action will see the local kids develop their skills and encourage them to continue playing the game into the future.
