Local business woman Keli McDonald has donated an illustrated book on human rights to the Gunnedah Shire Library.

Ms McDonald purchased The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, An Adaptation for Children by Ruth Rocha and Otavio Roth at the United Nations book shop when she was in New York for the Commission on the Status for Women.

The Gunnedah woman said the book was printed by United Nations Publications and she was "excited to provide young people in our community with the opportunity to understand the global language of the United Nations and their human rights".
The book features vivid linocut illustrations created by the late Brazilian artist Otavio Roth and aims to helps children better understand the importance of human rights.
Librarian Christiane Birkett said the publication would be sought-after and reminded her of the iconic Australian children's author Mem Fox and the way she conveys stories to her audience.
