Centacare NENW said that, while local centres had not been chosen for the trial, it was still a positive for the region.
The service currently caters to 12-25-year-olds, but the trial would cater for all ages.
"Any increase in services and supports in our region is appreciated, and the more funding and focus mental health issues receive, the better it is for everyone," Centacare NENW chief executive Fergus Fitzsimons said.
"It can be difficult for [young people] particularly to know what is safe, to know what is OK ... and that's where programs like Headspace can help."
Since Headspace Gunnedah was established more than six months ago, more than 340 occasions of service had been registered, showing there was an ongoing need, Centacare NENW said.
A successful youth engagement project grant means the local service can engage with Gunnedah shire's schools from this month.
