His electorate neighbour, Northern Tablelands MP, Adam Marshall retained his position in the cabinet taking on the challenging role of minister for agriculture and western NSW.
Gunnedah based upper house member Sarah Mitchell also retained her position after being promoted to the role of deputy leader of the government in the legislative council.
She will stay on as the minister for early childhood learning while picking up the education portfolio and dropping her previous job as Aboriginal affairs minister.
Elsewhere, Melinda Pavey was named the minister for water.
Deputy premier John Barilaro said the ministry would home in on regional issues.
"Our government has always recognised that the regions face different challenges than our cities, and this new team takes that to another level," Mr Barilaro said.
"The ongoing drought is still the major issue impacting on our communities, particularly in the state's west.
"That is why we have introduced a dedicated minister for Western NSW while also introducing a Minister for Water."
