Nats' candidate Andrew Schier received 45 per cent of first preference votes in Narrabri's polling booth and easily accounted for Mr Butler who only drew 26 per cent of support.
Mr Schier won a number of booths in the electorate's north including Boggabri, Baradine, Coonanbarabran and Condoblin, but Mr Butler was hugely supported in Broken Hill and other western areas.
