Curious Creatures is the Summer Reading Club theme and children coming into the library can claim a bag of activities, including mazes, colouring-in, games, swap cards and hints about online activities such as book reviews, which will get the children in the running for some great prizes.
Something that can be undertaken at once at the library is the Curious Creatures Puzzle Trail – ask for an entry form, and then try to find and identify as many curious creatures from the list of 30 as you can. The young, and the young at heart, who finish the trail can claim a prize!
There are also plenty of activities for adults happening during January.
We also have school holiday storytelling at 10.30am in the morning for youngsters to seven years old. Stories are followed by a curious handicraft, and children can also colour in the dragon’s scale to be added to our giant dragon on the side wall. No bookings are required, just come along on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings and enjoy.
Older children, from eight to 12 years, can try their hand at making curious creatures on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3.30pm. Follow the templates presented by the staff, or use materials available to make your own curious creature.
There’s a charge of $3 for this activity, and as we are limited by space, children will need to book by ringing 6740 2190.
There are also plenty of activities for adults happening during January. Brain Training @ the Library happens every Monday at 10.30am and 3.30pm. Have a fun-filled hour joining the dots, spotting the difference, solving codes, and doing word games, among other activities.
Knit and Natter, Colour and Chatter is also held at the library every Saturday morning from 9.30am to 12.30pm. You don’t have to stay the full three hours – just come along during that time and have fun chatting and handicrafts or playing your own board or card games.
The library provides colouring-in sheets and community art books and crayons, or pens and pencils, while other handicrafters bring their own supplies. Children are also welcome to attend.
It’s fun, it’s free, and it’s air-conditioned.
See you soon at the library!
