GardenScape Design were on site on Thursday, designing a feature at the front of the station using hand-cut sandstone blocks, which were discovered by workers in February.
The blocks are the foundations of the old Gunnedah jail and construction was halted for a short time so the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage could assess the discovery.
Next door, workers are powering on to complete the last stage of the construction project.
A new administration building was completed mid-year, with staff moving across to the structure so the old station could be demolished. The original police station was built in 1954.
The NSW government project is worth $8.2 million and was originally expected to be completed in October but has experienced delays including bad weather and asbestos removal.
Special guests at the official opening will include Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson and Gunnedah shire mayor Jamie Chaffey.
