The statement, issued at midday on Tuesday, warned residents in the greater Sydney and Illawarra areas to begin preparing their properties for periods of “heavy” and “intense” rain that may result in localised flash flooding starting Wednesday morning.

The warning also forecast damaging winds and hazardous surf conditions in coastal areas.
Locally, residents in the North West New England can also expect to receive some falls as the low pressure system moves inland.
Fairfax’s Weatherzone has forecast an 80 per cent chance of 10-20 mm overnight on Tuesday, and a 70 per cent chance of 1-5 mm on Wednesday.
Tamworth and Region Weather page’s David Farrenden isn’t predicting rainfalls in the same amount, although did suggest that storms will move through the region on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday, with the possibility of some turning severe.
