The annual Youth Surge event was hosted by Gunnedah Anglican Church and gave youth from around the north-west an opportunity to meet new people, play games and hear a message from Josh Bovis from St John The Evangelist Anglican Church in Tamworth.
Gunnedah’s assistant minister Aiden Sibrava said it was a “great night”.
“Kids said they were really encouraged and it was worth the trek [to Gunnedah],” he said.
Mr Sibrava said the youth responded well to Josh Bovis’ talk, titled ‘The parable of the Aussie boofhead’, which centred around the story of a rich, foolish man outlined in Luke chapter 12 in the Bible.
“[Josh] talked about how we’re stingy with God but God is still generous to us in Jesus and it was very encouraging,” he said.
Mr Sibrava said it was important for the youth to “see how the Bible stories relate to you now” and Mr Bovis’ message was “hilarious” and helpful.
“He was really engaged with the youth [and] it was just really great to see the youth respond to Josh,” he said.
“You could have heard a pin drop at times, but at other times, they were laughing a lot.”
Gunnedah MTS apprentice Leisa Newnham said Youth Surge gave the teens a chance to get together and form friendships.
“I think it was great to get all of the youth to see they’re not the only ones and they’re part of a big Christian family, and they can come together and have fun,” she said.
Mr Sibrava echoed the importance of relationships.

“If people have relationships, you can speak meaningfully to them,” he said.
