October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with Gunnedah residents getting on board to help the McGrath Foundation and Cancer Council NSW.
On Friday, women gathered at the Work of Art Community Gallery for a Girls’ Night In organised by Kim Banks.
Locals gave gold coin donations, took part in raffles, and set-up stalls and made cash donations to the Cancer Council, with more than $600 raised on the night.
On the Saturday, sisters Melissa Powell, Heidi Knight and Sally Keeler hosted a fundraising morning tea because a close family member had a brush with cancer.
More than $1300 was made for the McGrath Foundation through raffles, 100 club and stubbie holder sales at The Gunnedah Hotel.
McGrath Breast Care Nurse Nerridah Prentice travelled from Tamworth to speak at the event about how she supports breast cancer cancers.
The mother of the organisers, Kate Knight, said the fundraiser was “well-supported”.
“She’s just beautiful,” Mrs Knight said.
“She’s there to help out not only patients but family members.”
Mrs Prentice is a Tamworth resident who spent the first 20 years of her career in operating theatres, before spending the last 12 years on the oncology ward at the cancer centre, including time in the cancer coordinator role.
