ONE of Gunnedah’s oldest pubs is about to receive a face-lift thanks to new owners.
The Railway Hotel is set to boast a brand new drive-through bottle shop after business partners Josh Launders and Rob Broomham took control of the establishment earlier this month.
Mr Launders said the pair would look to continue their good work from the Courthouse Hotel into their second pub.
“While we will try to take some of the good things about the Courthouse and apply them to the Railway, the Railway will still have its own identity,” Mr Launders said.
“We want to take what was great about the Railway Hotel and give it a little bit of a boost.”
The new co-owner said his first priority would be getting the pub’s drive-through bottle shop up and running.
“It is the only drive-through bottle shop in town and in one of the most convenient places in town as well,” he said.
“We have put a lot of effort and money into bringing the massive cool room up to scratch and restocking it with a variety of drinks.
“We are also doing running repairs to various parts inside of the pub and eventually will give it a completely new look.
“For example, at the moment we have installed new lines, lowered the temperature of the kegs and lowered the price of beer.
“That will mean the beer tastes fresher, is colder and will now be better value for money.
“As well as that, we have also installed some water misters in the outdoor beer garden to keep people cool during the summer months.”

Opening on Wednesday, the new bottle shop will allow locals to purchase their alcohol without having to leave their car.
“Over time we are looking to have a really wide range of products available from the drive-through,” Mr Launders said.
“If there is something you like that we may not have just let, us know and we will hopefully be able to stock it for you.
“We are looking to have something for everyone inside the pub and out.”
Mr Launders said the new business would not negatively affect the Courthouse Hotel’s business.
“At the end of the day they are two different pubs,” he said.
“They will have different demographics and will offer people different things.
“So while some things may be better suited to one pub, that doesn’t mean they will be carried over to the other.
“I and the loyal staff I have around me, will be working very hard to give both pubs equal share of time and attention going forward.
“Hopefully the Railway will be one of, if not the best pub in Gunnedah in the future.”
