Formal for Farmers offers up donated formal wear to drought-stricken locals

Items including shoes, suits and dresses have come flooding in after the Formal for Farmers Facebook page began a donation drive earlier this year.

Until Friday, locals will have a chance to find their perfect fit with all donated goods up for grabs at the Tamworth Scout Hall.

Formal for Farmers co-ordinator Amy Sewell said the public’s response has been “mind blowing”.

“The last few months have been really good,” Ms Sewell said.

“We began receiving donations in July and since then we have teamed up with people in Wodonga and Sydney.

“It has gone crazy to be honest and it has been so pleasing to see the generosity of people from all over.

“We have sent out flyers and advertised the collection events on Facebook and have received a lot of interest, so hopefully we see a really good turn-out.”

As well as formal wear, locals will also be able to help themselves to pamper packs with items including makeup, perfume and accessories.

“There is so much stuff and quite a lot of it is new with the tags still on,” Ms Sewell said.

“As well as that, there is something for all ages and genders so there really is something for everyone.

“It really is mind blowing how much stuff there is, the hall is full and we still have about 30 or 40 boxes that we haven’t opened because we don’t have the space.”

The Breeza local said the donations would also go to other drought affected areas.

“After we wrap things up in Tamworth on Friday, we will be hosting similar events in Parkes and Forbes,” she said.

“Once those events are complete we will be winding down the drive.

“It has been so rewarding and a really proud achievement for me, so now hopefully we will have lots of people come and claim some stuff.”
