The Gunnedah Gymnastics Centre consolidated its impressive record, with outstanding results at the recent Level 5–6 Winter State Championships in Sydney.
Four gymnasts represented the centre, with three taking podium places in their respective divisions.
Stella Robertson, competing in Level 6, was the most impressive performer. She won gold on vault (9.55), gold on bars (9.75) gold on beam (9.425) and bronze on floor (9.225), and claiming the gold medal in the all-around of the Level 6 Division 2 age group. Her overall score of 37.95 was the highest total by any of the almost 650 gymnasts over the entire weekend.
Level 5 gymnast, Heidi White, won the silver medal all-around in her age division for Level 5. A dazzling performance on floor, saw her take the gold medal with a score of 9.45. This was backed up with a fourth place on bars, and sixth on vault.
Also competing on Level 5, Indiella Bryers, claimed the gold medal on bars (9.35) and produced consistent scores on all other apparatus to make it on the podium as the bronze NSW state champion for Level 5 Division 3.
In Division 4 of Level 6, Alice Edmunds placed a creditable 13th in the all-around, with solid performances on all apparatus.
Due to their results at last month’s NSW Country Championships Robertson, White and Bryers were selected to represent Country against City at the State Championships. The Level 5 team went down to their City counterparts but the Level 6 team emerged victorious.
The Gunnedah Gymnastics Centre is now focussing on preparations for Bodies in Motion, to be presented early in Term 4. This display evening will feature performances by members of the competition team, but will also include items by the members of the recreation classes and the display group.
