Topics highlighted for discussion included the immediate drought and assistance, water security and the recent release of the NSW Government’s 20-Year Economic Vision for Regional NSW.

Councillor Chaffey said the meeting was an opportunity for the elected chairs of the 12 Joint Organisations to unite and discuss priorities for infrastructure and service delivery in regional NSW.
“Joint Organisations of council have three clear functions – to establish strategic regional priorities and develop strategies and plans for delivering these priorities; to provide regional leadership and to be an advocate for strategic regional priorities; and to identify and take up opportunities for inter-governmental collaboration,” he said.
“These functions are important in understanding how we as Namoi Unlimited are working with council stakeholders to build scale and capacity as a region, and strengthen local government.
“As a region we can benefit from the sharing of information and experience with our regional areas, and collectively, I think we have a network that can affect the NSW Government’s 20-Year Economic Regional Plan.”
Cr Chaffey said Namoi Unlimited had completed its strategic regional plan for the next three years.
“Projects and activities aligned to the Strategic Regional Plan and the annual business plan fit nicely within this economic vision, its focus on water, economic growth and skills,” he said.
“My expectation is that this region is well-positioned to support applications from member councils to secure some of this $4.2 billion for the Namoi.”
The inaugural meeting was addressed by the Premier for NSW The Hon. Gladys Berejiklian, Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW The Hon. John Barilaro, and Minister responsible for Local Government The Hon. Gabrielle Upton.
