GJC secretary manager Mark Storey confirmed 19 nominations for next Monday’s initial 1300m AgQuip Cup after also receiving 152 in total for the seven-race TAB meeting.
2015 Gunnedah Cup winner Pippi’s Pride, prepared by Stephen Gleeson at Muswellbrook as well as 2016 Gunnedah Cup runner-up Free Billy (second to Halfway To Heaven) and this year’s runner-up Rockatorio (second to Unbiased) were amongst the nominations for the feature race.
Highway Handicap winners All Stand (Todd Howlett) and Radiant Choice (Stirling Osland) at Randwick and Rosehill respectively were also in the 19 Cup nominees with the likes of talented Barricade (Peter Bloomfield) and Lonely Orphan (Lesley Jeffriess) adding class to the field.
Barricade, a five-year-old gelding son of Street Sense, has started just the once at Gunnedah for a good win and now has six win in his 32-race career.
While Peter Sinclair has Free Billy nominated he’s also nominated picnic king Track Flash.
The seven-year-old son of Lonhro has won 10 races, as had Free Billy, including the Moree, Mallawa and Wean Picnic Cups.
His son, Nathan, also has this year’s Cup runner-up Rockatorio, nominated as well.
It all adds up to a high-class race for the first AgQuip Cup, said Mark Storey.
“That’s a very good field,” he said Tuesday after perusing the nominations.
“19 is pretty good too and 152 in total for the meeting is outstanding. We can’t complain about that, very happy with. Should nearly have full fields in each race looking at that.”
While the club races an AgQuip Cup for the first time on Monday (the national field days Ag Quip starts Tuesday and runs through to Thursday) it will also have a free shuttle bus service running to the track from the town centre.
The race bus picks up at the Golf Club, Wolseley Park and McDonalds from 12 noon and 12.30pm.
