GUNNEDAH residents have taken to the city’s reverse vending machine like a duck to water, with more than 3 million bottles and cans going through the Return and Earn station.

Since December, more than $300,000 has gone back in to the community as a result of the 3,034,135 items that have been collected. On average, the city is recycling one million items every three months.
Across the state, litter has dropped by 37 per cent since 2013, and the NSW Environmental Minister Gabrielle Upton says the Return and Earn program is responsible for a one-third reduction in drink container litter.
“More than 560 million containers have been processed by Return and Earn so far and as more collection points are rolled out, these results can only increase,” she said.
