An awards presentation was held at Gunnedah High School and was emceed by captains Jessica Moore and Jacob Bush. This year’s theme was “Today’s schools - creating tomorrow’s world”.
Special guests included Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson and director for public schools (Mooki Network) Mark Young and school principals of the Namoi Valley Partners in Learning –Gunnedah South Public School, Gunnedah Public School, Carroll Public School, Boggabri Public School, Mullaley Public School, GS Kidd Memorial School, Tambar Springs Public School, Curlewis Public School and Gunnedah High School.
The Acknowledgement of Country was given by Gunnedah High School student Chanelle Winsor. Under the guiding hand of Jamie Brown, the combined schools choir performed lead the National Anthem and sang We are Australian and This is Me from the film The Greatest Showman. GS Kidd Memorial School students performed Carra Barra Wirra Canna.
Each of the nine schools nominated a student, staff and community representative to be acknowledged for their positive contribution to their school. A Combined Schools Community Leader Award was also presented.
Gunnedah High School
The student award was presented to Denita Megson for her dedicated and consistent involvement in school and community activities.
The staff award was presented to Janene Brown for her positive and consistent contribution to curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
The Community award for Gunnedah High School was presented to Josh Stevenson at Crossfit for working with the school and wider community to promote healthy lifestyles.
Boggabri Public School
The student award was presented to Cayla McInerney in acknowledgement of her positive attitude to learning and participating enthusiastically in all areas of school life.
The staff award was presented to Jacqui McInerney in recognition of her commitment to improving the learning opportunities and outcomes for all students. Your ongoing resourcing for our students ensures they are prepared for success in tomorrow’s world.
The community award for Boggabri Public School was presented to Kate Bomford in appreciation for her ongoing support to improve the academic, sporting and cultural outcomes for all students at Boggabri Public School.
Carroll Public School
The student award was presented to Stephanie Faint for continually striving to be a positive role model to all students at Carroll Public School.
The staff award was presented to Jamie Brown for his commitment to the musical education of Carroll Public School for the past nine years.
The community award for Curlewis Public School was presented to Tammy Wadwell for her commitment and support of the students and staff at Carroll Public School in her role as P&C president.
Curlewis Public School
The student award was presented to Taleah Haddow. Taleah is recognised for her outstanding attitude towards learning. She is a highly proactive and independent learner who continually strives to improve.
The staff award was presented to Wilf McBeth. Over many years, across various NSW Public Schools, Wilf McBeth has made an outstanding contribution to the education of students. He has inspired countless students to go beyond the everyday to achieve great things.
The community award for Curlewis Public School was presented to P&C president Casey West, a tireless and passionate supporter of the students at Curlewis Public School. She truly exemplifies the P&C motto ‘Doing it for the kids’.
GS Kidd Memorial School
The student award was presented to Shayne Williams. Shayne displays an exceptional work ethic. She is kind and caring, a fantastic role model and sets a great example for other students.
The staff award was presented to Kim Gibson. Kim's dedication to the GS Kidd School garden and kitchen program has provided our students with a valuable resource and lifelong skills. Kim is always giving of her time to support students and staff.
The community award for GS Kidd Public School was presented to Olwyn Jones for her dedication to the students at GS Kidd School. Olwyn has volunteered over many years. She assists in the classroom and runs a variety of programs.
Gunnedah South Public School
The student award was presented to Ava Coleman. Ava is a fantastic all-round student who strives for personal excellence in all of her schooling. Her pleasant nature and positive attitude towards others makes everyone around her feel fantastic.
The staff award was presented to Rachel Passfield. Rachel is a dynamic teacher at Gunnedah South who displays exceptional teaching talent and care. Her compassion and kindness to all students is one of the leading values of public education.
The community award for Gunnedah South Public School was presented to Rhonda Smith. Rhonda is a doer. She is always available for everyone in the Gunnedah Community and our school. She is much loved by students and staff and her massive heart full of kindness is appreciated by everyone.
Gunnedah Public School
The student award was presented to Triana Campbell for being an exceptional all-round student. Triana is an enthusiastic student who is a self-motivated learner, involving herself in all aspects of school life. Triana is involved in choir, sporting teams and is one of the first students to volunteer for anything.
The staff award was presented to Allyson Hoban for unwavering commitment to the learning needs of all students. Allyson has successfully created and maintained positive links between the classroom and community through her role as school learning and support teacher.
The community award for Gunnedah Public School was presented to Ray Williams for outstanding contribution and commitment to Gunnedah Public School. Ray demonstrates a commitment to the students and staff at Gunnedah Public School. He is an active member of the P&C, the canteen manager and is a tireless volunteer whenever needed.
Mullaley Public School
The student award was presented to Amelia Lush for continually striving to be a strong role model for all younger students, positively promoting Mullaley Public School through her sport, cultural and academic endeavours.
The staff award was presented to Stephen Kirk for outstanding effort and achievement in gaining a top three per cent cleanliness rating within NSW schools.
The community award for Mullaley Public School was presented to Sheryl Martin for continually going above and beyond in fundraising to ensure positive and quality educational opportunities for all students.
Tambar Springs Public School
The student award was presented to Georgia Nelson. Georgia is an exemplary leader who consistently demonstrates the values of our school, making her a positive role model for the entire student body.
The staff award was presented to Rebecca Twidale. Rebecca has demonstrated commitment and diligence in the provision of high quality curricular and extra-curricular educational programs to the children of Tambar Springs Public School.
The community award for Tambar Public School was presented to Carol Lees. Carol has dedicated considerable time and energy to supporting the children and staff of Tambar Springs Public School, both within the school itself, and in the broader community.
Combined Schools Community Leader Award
Mr Young announced the winner of the Combined Schools Community Leader Award –Colleen Fuller – and Mr Anderson presented the award.
“Colleen Fuller is a true lady who works tirelessly for our community and has a passion which she freely shares with all for Education,” Mr Young read.
“Her support of students, families, staff and schools is ongoing and she is an avid contributor to many schools across our area. Her quiet kindness and work behind-the-scenes in many of our schools throughout the Gunnedah shire is greatly appreciated.”
