“A lot of our members are pensioners so they gave what they could, some are retired farmers and we knew the assistance went to Gunnedah district.”
The fundraiser was iniatied by Gunnedah-man William Price who was assisted by Rotary Club 2380.
Rotary president Stacey Cooke said the generosity of the town spoke of the locals’ compassionate nature.
“William isn’t a farmer, but I think he represents a lot of standard locals who, are perhaps not farmers but, have compassion for farmers and could in no way standby and say they understand what they are going through,” she said.
“It’s probably because so many in the town have no idea how to help.
“We’re a very compassionate town, we really have each others back and it might be what sets us aside from larger communities being the sort of town that does support each other.”
