NEW England detectives say a man bashed in his own home remains in a stable condition in a Newcastle hospital.

The 56-year-old was attacked on Friday night in his Railway Street house in Glen Innes.
He was discovered on Saturday and taken to Armidale hospital before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for emergency neuro-surgery.
On Tuesday, New England police made a public appeal for help following the attack on the man, who is believed to be intellectually disabled.
“Investigators are waiting to speak with him,” New England Detective Inspector Ann Joy said on Tuesday.
“He’s still in John Hunter Hospital, listed in a stable condition.”

Detectives have been told the man was attacked by two men who were armed with a knife and baseball bat about 11pm on Friday.
“The victim was knocked unconscious during the incident and suffered head and facial industries,” Detective Inspector Joy said.
“We don’t believe this incident is linked to any other matters across this district.”
