The date would have marked the Gunnedah girl’s 24th birthday. Maddie lost her battle with depression in March 2016.
Maddie’s Big beyondblue Bash will be held in the Woolworths car park from 8am, with a cake stall, raffle and sausage sizzle.
The fundraiser will be hosted by the Smith family and Woolworths for a third year. Maddie’s mother, Vicki, is a long-term employee of Woolworths and wants funds to be keep within the area to provide much-needed resources for those suffering from mental illness. In 2017, more than $2000 was raised for beyondblue.
The Smith family is asking the community to turn out and show its support for the event in honour of Maddie.
“Maddie would be so proud of how this community is shining a light on mental health and raising money to support those who suffer as it is not uncommon and nothing to be ashamed of,” the family said.
beyondblue is available for immediate support on 1300 22 4636.
