The funds became available on Thursday as a part of the state government’s Save Our Species (SOS) program, which helps landholders plant vegetation and other means of helping native wildlife.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the NSW government has put the funds on the table to deliver more local projects to save threatened species.
“This program has already delivered more than $100,000 for developing koala habitat on a number of properties near Gunnedah,” Mr Anderson said.
“It’s a program that really delivers.”

Mr Anderson said the latest funds were the latest offering in the state government’s species assistance over the next five years.
“This is the first time this scale of funding has been available to the community from the (SOS) program,” he said.
“Under the program, individual grants of up to $350,000 are available for projects that will run for seven years and will require a contribution from the successful organisation and project partners.
“SOS is investing $100 million over five years and the new grants program is designed to increase the number of species that can be secured in the wild.”
The Tamworth MP encouraged anyone interested to get involved.
“Saving threatened species can be as simple as planting native vegetation, weed programs or research projects that involved people of all ages keeping a record of a specific bird or animal,” he said.
“All applicants are strongly encouraged to develop and deliver projects with other collaborating partners.”
