Already offering 33 courses, Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson announced the addition of six new courses at Gunnedah TAFE for semester two of 2018.
Mr Anderson said he had worked closely with TAFE NSW to ensure community needs in Gunnedah are being met.
“I believe the addition of six new offerings, on top of the 33 courses already available locally and hundreds more available through TAFE Digital, is a huge step in the right direction,” Mr Anderson said.
“In April we held a successful round table discussion with community leaders and business owners. The overwhelming feedback was that it was necessary for TAFE NSW to put the needs of local business and community first, and ensure they were delivering the training that best suited them.
“TAFE NSW is working with local businesses and key stakeholders to identify any areas where there are gaps in their educational and training delivery.”

Mr Anderson said the announcement was a sign of more exciting developments for the Gunnedah facility in the future.
“Being able to today announce the introduction of six new courses for 2018, with the promise of even more to come in 2019, is a wonderful result for everyone involved,” he said.
“There has been considerable feedback about the opportunities to grow training in Gunnedah – this is an extremely positive start for the community to take advantage of, and we’ll continue to work with them on the best way to spend the $1.2 million in Government funding that’s been allocated to help ease the skills shortage.”
The six new courses now open for enrolments:
• Statement of Attainment in Excavator and Telehandler Operations;
• Statement of Attainment in Excavator and Dozer Operations;
• Statement of Attainment in Early Childhood Fundamentals;
• Statement of Attainment in Introduction to Horticulture;
• Certificate II in Hospitality;
• Certificate III in Hospitality.
Mr Anderson said in further proof of its commitment to the Gunnedah region, TAFE NSW recently employed specialist new staff to help deliver better outcomes for the local community.
“Ashleigh Foster is the new TAFE services co-ordinator and Simon Taylor is the new Aboriginal engagement co-ordinator,” he said.
“Both staff will work hard to ensure that Gunnedah remains a vibrant community and bring a wealth of knowledge to the organisation.”
