The film follows the life of Nepalese women over four years as the organisation Seven Women empowers them through education, skills training and income generation.
Funds from the screening will go towards the charity Seven Women, which works with disabled and disadvantaged women of Nepal. The charity was founded by Australian Stephanie Woollard at the age pf 22 charity after she encountered disabled women in Kathmandu.
Ms Wollard spent her last $200 on trainers to teach the women how to produce goods for sale locally and abroad. Since then, they have educated and empowered 5000 women in Kathmandu as well as rural regions of Nepal.
Stephanie graduated as a Rotary Peace Scholar 2013, received Moral Fairground’s National ‘Most Ethical Enterprise Award 2014 and was a 2016 nominee of Australian of the Year. In that year she also received the Rotary Responsible Business Award from RI President John Germ.
Bringing the Light will screen at 6.30pm at The Civic Theatre followed by a Nepalese style meal with drinks. Tickets cost are $25 and available online from https://www.trybooking.com/WIDH or through Mark Kesby 0428 429 244.
