GUNNEDAH police are urging residents to secure their cars following a spate of recent thefts in the Mathias Road and Mornington Estate areas.
Expensive goods have been the main target of thieves with items such as purses and a guitar among the stolen items reported during the spate of thefts in the early hours of June 7.
A Gunnedah police spokesperson told The Namoi Valley Independent it was crucial for people to ensure their vehicles are secured.
“Following these recent thefts we want to reinforce the message that people need to ‘lock it or lose it’,” the spokesperson said.
“We have seen these thefts happen overnight and when people have parked their cars to go to work for the day.
“So that is why we are reminding people to ensure their cars are secure, it can be as easy as double checking a door after pressing the button for automatic locking.
“By ensuring your vehicle is secure, it limits the opportunity for property to be stolen.”
Investigations into the thefts are continuing.
