BOOKS have the power to connect people across the world and on Wednesday the Gunnedah Shire Library played its part in sharing the message of books.
As the clock struck 11am, local kids from Winanga-Li Aboriginal Child and Family Centre joined library staff, community member Tony Jones and thousands of people across the country for a reading of Laura Wood’s ‘Hickery Dickery Dash’ as part of National Simultaneous Storytime.

Gunnedah Shire Librarian Christiane Birkett said the event, now in its 18th year, aims to promote the value of reading and literacy.
“The event has many outcomes, including promoting the value and fun in books, as well as supporting an Australian writer and publisher and encouraging children to attend storytime activities in the library,” Ms Birkett said.
