While the Gunnedah Red Devils are still searching for their first win of the Central North Rugby Union Women’s Sevens competition, Sarah Stewart said the team was showing positive signs.

Stewart, who helped bring the side together, said not only was the team as a whole new but the majority of the Red Devils were playing rugby for the first time this year.
“Our goals are to just work on our skills as a team and enjoy ourselves. It’s our first year and it’s all about learning something new,” Stewart said.
“It’s a brand new sport for women in Gunnedah but we’ve pretty much doubled in numbers from our first game, which is awesome.
“Each week, we’re improving our skills together which is making us more competitive.”

Gunnedah clashed with the ladder-leading Inverell side last Saturday.
They played two games with Inverell taking out 32-0 and 36-0 victories.
The Red Devils have played eight games in total this season and went close to a win in round two against Narrabri.
In those two games, Gunnedah went down 27-5 in the opening game before bouncing back to fall just short, 17-10, in the second game of the day.
The women’s side will next take on Pirates Rugby Club at Chillingworth Oval in Tamworth on May 5.
