Leading into the 2018 Little Athletics State Track and Field Championships, Gunnedah Little Athletics Club president Ben Sawyer said the juniors at the club had put “a lot of training and effort in” for the event.

That hard work turned into some incredible performances at the championships held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre at the end of March.
The group from the Gunnedah Little Athletics included Haylee Turner, Bella Sawyer, Josh Coker, Hayden Sawyer, Oliver Shoesmith, Harry Ryman, Owen Shoesmith, Finnegan Leader and Keaton Walters.
President Sawyer said they all were great representatives for the Gunnedah club.
“They all trained hard and performed well down there,” Sawyer said.
“Congratulations to all the athletes at the state championships. They all showed great sportsmanship. It’s something to proud of.”
Bringing home the best results for the Gunnedah club were Harry Ryman and Bella Sawyer who both claimed top 10 finishes.
Harry, in the nine years boys, finished eighth in the 100 metres in a time of 15.08 but went even better in the long jump.
He leapt a huge 3.98 metres to claim fifth.
Bella, in the 11 years girls, competed in the high jump in Sydney and managed to jump a height of 1.3 metres to finish an impressive sixth.
While the state titles marked the end of the season for Little Athletics, a number of athletes will train at a Melinda Gainsford-Taylor clinic on April 27 in Gunnedah. There are limited spots left. Register at melgt.com.au/speed-clinics/
