Albion captain Russell Baker said the win was “bloody awesome” and “better than the last one”.
He said the victory was set up by the opening spells of Ash White and Garry Briggs.
“Our two opening bowlers bowled fantastic line and length and had them 5-9 early on,” Baker said.
“Briggsy ended up with 5-3 off 5.2 overs.”
“We backed it up in the field and didn't let any loose runs go.” They scored a bit in the middle of the innings but nothing that got away from us.”
White bagged 2-18 while spinner Zac Clarke (2-22) also picked up a pair of wickets to have Mornington all out for 85.
Jono Middlebrook (40) continued his good form while Corey Mathews (19) scored late runs to push Mornington’s total up.
Albion were reduced to 2-9 in reply before Clarke (10) and White (17) steadied the ship.
Middlebrook – who finished with 4-21 from eight overs – took regular wickets but Albion kept scoring runs as Ryan Cooper (17*) and Andrew Osmand (16*) guided Albion home to a five-wicket win.
The win also was a return to form after losing the two games leading into the grand final.
If anything, those losses spurred Albion on.
“They boys were really pumped. We knew we’d had those two losses but if we played to our capabilities, individually and as a team, we could win,” Baker said.
“The boys took that into the game.”
