Minor premiers Albion will clash with Mornington on Saturday for the title.
The reigning premiers haven’t had the greatest run into the final but captain Russell Baker wasn’t worried about that.
“We’re pretty confident. It’s probably unfortunate our two losses have been in our last two games but we’ve been short on numbers in those games,” Baker, who expected a handful of players to return, said.
“I think everyone knows what our capabilities are – individually and as a team.”
Mornington made the final with a win over Court House last week.
Matt Pryde was the star of the show in the semi-final but Mornington captain Bruce Hockings said the win was a “team effort”.
He said a similar performance was needed to knock over Albion in the final.
“Albion’s a very good team with some great cricketers. We’re going to have to play at our best,” Hockings said.
“They totally deserve to be there – they’ve been best team all year.
“We’re just happy to be there and if we get up it'll be a bonus.”
Mornington have come a long way since the start of the year.
As the season progressed, they picked up more players and their side steadily became stronger.
“At the start of the year we were struggling for players as a club in general but in second grade in particular,” Hockings said.
“At one point we thought we’d be doing well to see the season out but then more players came along.”
Baker was well aware of Mornington’s progression throughout the year – Albion were beaten by Mornington in the final round of the competition – but his focus this weekend was on his own side getting things right.
“There’s a few blokes that have scored runs for them but we’ve just got to stick to our game plan – get the field placings right and bowl to your field,” Baker said.
The match is scheduled for a 1pm start at Kitchener Oval on Saturday.
