Along with free food and drinks guests were treated to an evening packed with guest speakers covering current community issues such as gender identification and domestic violence.
Gunnedah Community Action Team (GCAT) hosted the event which was aimed at equipping people with the tools to identify the early signs of domestic violence.
Gunnedah Family Support Homebase team leader and GCAT member Jess Blair told The Namoi Valley Independent the event was a huge success.
“It was great to see a wide range of people in attendance on such a special day for all women,” Ms Blair said.
“International women’s day celebrates women’s achievements throughout history and across nations.”
“The IWD event was a wonderful success filled with lots of positive feedback.
“Last night was an important event for our local businesses and our community, we have started the conversation and promoted that it’s ok to speak up and out against domestic and family violence while educating service and business providers with practical skills to manage client disclosure, identifying the warning signs and where to refer clients who need assistance.”

Ms Blair said GCAT is dedicated to making changes within the community.
“The GCAT is a great representation of international women’s day,” she said.
“They are all strong, passionate and beautiful women who are actively evoking positive changes in our community.
“These women don’t sit on their hands and wait for things to happen, they make it happen.
“Gunnedah is a lucky community to have a solid commitment to making positive changes for families.”
