Almost 2200 head of cattle went under the hammer at the first weekly sale of March as the usual buyers gathered at the Gunnedah Saleyards on Tuesday morning.
Pollock and Cummins stock agent Adam Pollock said bull prices improved at the sale.
“The bull market jumped 15 cents (from last week’s market) with the top priced bull making $2.45 per kilogram this week,” Mr Pollock said.
“The cow job was also better, lighter cows made upwards of seven cents better than last week on average with the best lighter cows making $1.89 per kilogram.
“Today we saw the best cows top their market at $2.38 per kilogram for the better end of the cows which is an improvement of about 10 cents."
The Gunnedah stock agent said export cattle also performed well at the sale.
“With the steers we saw the export job up about 10 cents with an average of about $2.75,” he said.
“The only part of the sale which didn’t pick up was with the re-stockers, surprisingly that market just sort of held firm.
“Overall the yarding here today was very good, the quality was decent, much the same as we have been getting here over the last few weeks and with all this rain around the market just seems to be picking up each week.”
