Gunnedah Library Lines: Have a date with a book

Good read: One of the new books at the library.

Are you adventurous? Are you courageous? Are you daring enough to go on a Blind Date with a Book?

February is Library Lovers’ Month, and from February 14, Valentine’s Day, you can pull a book from the basket and take it on a blind date!  All the books in the basket have been covered, so you won’t know what you are going to be taking home.

Perhaps you’ll fall in love with the book, or the genre, and want more of the same. No problem – just return the book and borrow more. And to sweeten the deal, some of the books in the baskets have a little red heart in them. If you are one of the lucky readers, return the heart to the library and claim your prize.

You have until the end of the month to write a letter to the library, saying what you love about it, what you would like to see more of, and books you would like to see on the shelves – just collect the letter template from the library and let your literary skills flow.

Plenty of new books have been added to the library during the last week. New titles include How to Organise and Operate a Small Business in Australia - this book by John English explains “how to turn ideas into success”. Another new addition to the shelf is How Weather Works: Understanding the Elements by Horizon, and Daring to Drive by Manal Al-Sharif, a book about “the young woman who stood up to a kingdom of men”.

Lovers of thriller writers will enjoy Vince Flynn’s latest Mitch Rapp novel, Enemy of the State, while those who prefer romance can try Journey’s End. Two books set in Australia are Red Sand Sunrise by Fiona McArthur, and by Janine Grey there’s Desert Flame, “an outback story of obsession, mystery and love” – it should tick all the boxes!
