With cash prizes on offer, the competition was fierce but the local pair held their own and came away with pleasing results.
Steele has been improving at every meet as he gains racing experience and he registered improved times in six events, with first place in the 50m butterfly and backstroke.
Although he finished out of a place in the 100m freestyle, the teenager stripped a massive 11.35 seconds from his entry time, and grabbed third place in the 50m event and 100m backstroke.
Competing in the 15 and over events, Coombs won the 200m individual medley in a personal best time. She also won the 50m freestyle and came second in the 100m event, clipping 1.14 seconds from her entry time. Coombs finished the program with second place in the 100m butterfly and third place in the 50m backstroke.
Local squads will compete at upcoming carnivals in Werris Creek, with a number of swimmers qualifying for the NSW Country Championships on February 24-25.
