The former athlete told Fairfax Media carrying the baton through Gunnedah was a proud moment.
“It’s an awesome atmosphere and I always love coming back here, these are my roots, Ms Carrigan said.
“My family is out here and this is an amazing way to be honoured.”
The former cycling star is predicting big things from the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
“There has been such an amazing build up to these Commonwealth Games,” she said.
“There is such a good feel around the games, I have been involved right from the start as a part of the bid team and there has been a good feel around the games all along.
“I think in two months time when the games start we are in for a treat.”
The 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games begin on April 4.
