Community members young and old were recognised for their outstanding efforts and impact on the Gunnedah area.
Gunnedah’s Australia Day ambassador Frank Coletta, The Hon Sarah Mitchell, MLC and many representatives from Gunnedah Shire Council were on hand to present the awards.
In the citizen of the year categories, Delores Worthington took out the Evelyn Wise Award for Citizen 40 years old and over, while Lenelle Ritter claimed the Citizen of the Year Award for people aged 21 to 40, and Tyson Hubbard was awarded Citizen of the Year Award for people aged under 21.
Gunnedah Shire mayor Jamie Chaffey said the awards were a direct indication of the strength of the Gunnedah community.
“To me, it’s fantastic to see so many wonderful community members here,” Cr Chaffey said.
“Having so many people nominated to me signifies the health of the Gunnedah community at the moment.”
Cr Chaffey said all of the evening’s winners were “most deserving”.
“It’s like our deputy mayor Gae Swain says, “Without our volunteers, Gunnedah stops”.
“I want to sincerely congratulate all of our winners here tonight,” he said.
