The reigning premiers began pre-season training last week, some four months out from when the competition is expected to kick-off.
Whilst numbers were slightly down, due to cricket commitments for the majority of players, the Dogs are using the warm summer whether to gain extra fitness as they prepare to defend their crown.
The 2017 season saw the Bulldogs claim their first premiership since 1991, defeating five-times reigning champions New England Nomads 15.16-106 to 13.8-86 in a pulsating grand final.
Greg Piggott orchestrated the flag last season but with his move up north the Dogs are currently without a nominated coach for 2018.
Player numbers are expected to be strong, although early whispers indicate a few key members could apply themselves to other football codes or retire due to the success of last season.
Although possibly losing some members of last season’s squad, reigning Tony Gillies medallist Jake Spackman, young gun Ben Maher and inspirational skipper Andrew George are three key players returning for 2018.
The core group that have been there for the last five to six seasons are also expected to pull the boots on again.
Players are welcome to attend the sessions down at Gunnedah’s Wolseley Oval on Tuesday nights from 6pm.
