The Gunnedah GoCo volunteers are the heart and soul of GoCo’s service delivery and are a treasured group who play a vital role in the health and happiness of residents and clients of GoCo.
The GoCo Support Volunteers assist people with transport, their shopping, medical appointments, paying bills and are integral to the Dementia Day Centre and provide hours of authentic social interaction to GoCo’s clients.
GoCo Volunteers provide an incredible 2000+ hours of their own time helping others. The GoCo Volunteers have no hesitation lending a helping hand, teaching, sharing and bringing inspiration and happiness to those they work with and the wider Gunnedah community.
Gunnedah Football Club
Sports team of the Year
Gunnedah Football Club has achieved back-to-back 1st Grade Minor Premierships in the Tamworth and District Soccer Competition in 2016/2017, as well as winning the 2017 Kevin Johnson Cup. The team was unbeaten all year in 2016 and made the grand final again in 2017.
Gunnedah’s Football Club Senior League dedication with the skills development and the success of the Junior League through refereeing junior games, coaching junior sides and fundraising for the Junior Clubs as well as mentoring junior players at training and inviting selected players to train with senior players during the week.
Gunnedah Football Club has made massive contributions to the junior soccer league with an excess of 450 members in the 2017 season. The dedication to the expansion and skills development of the junior league by the Gunnedah Football Club is to be commended.
Gunnedah Show Society
Community Achievement Award and Ossie & Beryl Campbell Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award
The Gunnedah Show Society is made up of a wonderful group of people who are committed to contributing to Gunnedah through their co-ordination and support for events and activities that make up the annual Gunnedah Show, which is a highlight every year.
The Gunnedah Show is celebrating its 130th year in 2018 and is a testament to the hard work of Show Society volunteers. The Gunnedah Show Society make all of their contributors feel valued and ensure they include everyone.
The Show Society also contribute to co-ordinating other major community events, including the annual Showjumping Festival, Agquip Bull Ride, Country Music Muster, Rose Show and the Gunnedah Campdraft.
Kate Mackley
Citizen of the Year Award 21-40 years and Community Achievement Award
Kate Mackley plans, participates and co-ordinates a variety of community events within the shire of Gunnedah. Kate is heavily involved with the Gunnedah Roundtable, NAIDOC, GCAT, Young Access, the Gunnedah Access Committee and We Are One Choir.
Kate has been integral in the co-ordination of community events, including Grandparents Day, NAIDOC Community Celebrations, White Ribbon Gala Day and Homelessness Connect Day.
Kate goes beyond her role and contributes a lot of her own personal time to ensure all individuals in the community are included and valued.
Tyson Hubbard
Young Citizen of the Year Award - 21 Years and Under
Tyson has been a great ambassador for the Gunnedah Youth Council in 2017. He represented Gunnedah at the NSW Youth Week Forum in Sydney and was the compere for the Gunnedah Youth Week launch party.
He has also advocated for mental health services for Gunnedah and Moree, participated in fundraising Dessert Bar initiatives for the Gunnedah Community Scholarship Fund and participated as an important team member in co-ordinating and delivering Youth Week activities.
Tyson has also had huge success with his musical accomplishments, performing as a soloist at CAPERS 2017 Gunnedah Conservatorium’s pantomime, selected for State Schools Spectacular for the last two years and has been awarded the Rod Stoker Scholarship for Music/Vocal Achievement at Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School twice.
Tyson has also co-ordinated a Beyond Blue charity concert and has volunteered to instruct dance at the Rotary Debutante Ball. Tyson Hubbard is an active and multi-talented young man who contributes his time freely to the community and loves to perform.
Annerley Fitzsimmons
Young Citizen of the Year Award - 21 Years and Under
In 2017, Annerley was St Mary’s College Dux with an ATAR of 93.45, received the Year 12 all-rounder award and the McAuley Award of Academic Excellence. She was also voted Vice School Captain by her peers.
Annerley has consistently dedicated her time to the Gunnedah Shire Band, representing at State and National levels and performs at community events including Anzac Day ceremonies, naturalisation ceremonies, Brilliance in Brass, Carols by Candlelight and Grandparents Day 2017.
She was named Gunnedah Showgirl in 2016 and is an active member of the Gunnedah Pony Club, representing Gunnedah at State in horse riding competitions over the years and has participated in Riding for the Disabled. Annerley has also represented her school in cattle parading at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Annerley is a committed community member and has a desire to always do her best while encouraging others.
Bob Hodges
Citizen of the Year Award - 40+years, and Ossie & Beryl Campbell Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award
Bob and Val are one of the most iconic and sweet couples you will see in Gunnedah. Bob is the diligent and helpful husband of Val Hodges and has been nominated for all of his assistance he has provided her over the years and the love they share.
Jodi Dolbel
Citizen of the Year Award 40 + and Community Achievement Award
Jodi Dolbel was the driving force behind the 2017 Gunnedah Spirit of Christmas Fair, has been an integral part of the Gunnedah Vibrant Retail Precinct Committee, and whole-heartedly promotes the benefits of shopping locally and supporting local initiatives in Gunnedah.
Jodi has poured months of her time into voluntarily organising the Gunnedah Spirit of Christmas Fair to support the businesses and the community of Gunnedah. The incredible success of the 2017 Gunnedah Spirit of Christmas Fair is a testament to her herculean efforts.
