There’s the new fantasy novel Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King - “all around the world, something is happening to women when they fall asleep”. The book is a massive 718 pages but King never disappoints. Bestselling author Deborah Rodiguez, famous for her Little Coffee Shop in Kabul novel, has located her latest novel, The Zanzibar Wife in Oman - “the ancient land of frankincense, windswept deserts, craggy ,mountaintops and turquoise seas”.
A Long Way From Home is the title of the new novel by Australian author Peter Carey. The novel is set in the 1950s and the story is woven around The Redex Trail, “a brutal race around the ancient continent”. A book about another Australian traveller is The Last Great Australian Adventurer by Gordon Bass, describing Ben Carlin’s epic journey around the world by amphibious jeep!
Inspiration for the New Year could come from The Game Changers, featuring success secrets from inspirational women changing the game and influencing the world by Samantha Brett and Steph Adams. If you would like to change your child’s game and also prepare yourself for the trials and tribulations of the new school year, try More Maths for Mums and Dad, the teenage years. As well as explanations of common mathematical problems, there are questions and answers, and always useful explanations of the answers.
Come into the library, not only to borrow books, but to see the Game On! Summer Reading Club decorations, and pick up a Summer Reading Club activity bag – free for your children. The bags are filled with games, puzzles and activities to keep your youngsters amused, and they can also take part in the library’s Game On! identify the icons game - just ask at the desk for the entry form.
