Site manager, Bob Mudie of Patterson Building Group, said workers have been on site since Monday.
The main police residential building has been demolished but a second residence has been left untouched. Mr Mudie said it will be used as temporary jail cells when the current station is demolished.
The site manager said works will begin on the administration section of the new station in early January.
“We should have a frame up for this section mid-February,” he said.
When the administration section is complete, police staff will move into the new building so the original station can be demolished to make way for the construction of the second half of the new station.
“The local people have been terrific and the local trades seem very good, so I’m very happy],” Mr Mudie said.
“Completion is scheduled for the end of September [2018].”
