CanAssist will hold its annual Mock Debutante Ball in the hall from 7pm, with male “debs” to be presented in white gowns at 7.30pm.
Ahead of the ball, at 6:15pm, Gunnedah Shire Council is encouraging the community to dress-up in their scariest and funniest Halloween costumes and meet at the Gunnedah Post Office for a ‘Night of the Walking Dead' march.
CanAssist’s ball is slightly different this year with a ‘Deb of the Year’ theme.
“The debs from the past three years, I’ve invited them back,” CanAssist member Kate Knight said.
“Some of them loved it, so I thought, why not?”
Former deb Stuart Dolbel and his wife Jodi will once again don their Halloween best to grace the floor of the town hall with six other debs.
Ray Darcy will return as compere, and Sally Anne Whitton and Gunnedah’s Trevor Stacey will provide entertainment.
The ball will raise funds for local cancer patients and is CanAssist’s major fundraiser. Last year, $10,000 was raised.
“People love to dress-up at Halloween,” Mrs Knight said.
“We’re hoping to get more than 100 people.”
Mrs Knight said tables to seat 10 or 20 people can be purchased online at www.mygunnedah.com.au/halloween Tickets are $35 per person.
A bar will be in operation and attendees can bring their own nibblies.
For a gold coin donation, friends and family can access the gallery to watch the proceedings.
Deb Brendan Bain will brave the pain of having his legs waxed on Saturday by Maddi Vigor to boost funds. The waxing will take place in front of Evolution Therapy on Conadilly Street at 11am.
